Think 61: A purposeful career

No. 62 – December 28, 2022

Welcome to Think.Your newsletter on leadership, career and growth from the smartest investors, entrepreneurs, and leaders.

We are working on enhancing the newsletter beyond the podcast. Think is an attempt to bring the best content and resources on entrepreneurship, leadership and career.

The One Percent Project:
+Lessons on Strategic Communication: Warren Buffet is a huge proponent of communication. He believes in the power of communication and the importance of it for leaders and for society, and his passion for that is remarkable. He represents the Omahaian sensibility: the no-nonsense, call it as you see it style of communication.

+A purposeful career: Purpose neither grows on trees nor is buried somewhere for people to go and find. Purpose is found by discovery; to discover it, one has to try different things.

Three for the week:

+Compundig Customer Value: Customers are becoming entitled and spoiled for choice; they are no longer happy with either good enough or local best. Only “insanely great” will do (h/t Steve Jobs).

+The mental models of Chinese tech: There’s no such thing as being the right person. Only about being at the right place at the right time. This reframes opportunities as solely arising from market timing rather than from a visionary individual.

+A quote to think about: “I’d tell men and women in their midtwenties not to settle for a job or a profession or even a career. Seek a calling.”
